I thought I would give you my version of the day's news here in Southern California:
Holy crap!
Well, what they aren't telling you, is that the air is filled with brown dust and stuff everywhere. For 75 miles, brown air today. I have never seen winds like this before. Several people remarked to me how unusually strong the winds are now. Everywhere. And going in all directions. The debris in the air sounded like rain pelting the car.
The news isn't covering the several smaller fires. One was in the city where it put out smoke (brown smoke) that was incredible and visible for miles. (People had to evacuate their neighborhood.) I had to drive through that smoke as it blew around near the freeway. Man, it seems I DO want to live.
They said that the wind had died down somewhat in Malibu. Sure it did, it came to hang out where I live. At least we don't have any fire here. --oohh, I just heard something go whack! in my yard. Something will have to be fixed up tomorrow.
Anyway, I just wanted you to appreciate the impressive dirt in the air. I thought about the dust storms on Mars and how long they can last. What would that be like?
They said that we had a recorded burst near a mountain peak of 108 mph, or Cat 2 hurricane strength. They called it an abberation. I hope it is. Anyway, tomorrow they expect something like 50 mph sustained, up to 80 mph bursts. I hope that's all it is.
Our dance card is filling up fast here in SoCal. We're nervous tonight, for sure.
I hope anybody who has to evacuate, does go. Better safe than sorry.
