Image 43105
This is probably one of the more extensive sites uncovered thus far on the surface of
Mars. That it has not received any attention is in itself remarkable. Rob, web author of Alientricities discovered
this location and debuted it on Saturday February 20, 2000 on the Mars Discussion and Anomalous Mars Discussion boards. The following
pages present two different perspectives on this site. Many Anomaly Hunters have found numerous effigies on the
surface, these are viewed as pointers, clan markers, temples etc. and give an indication of planned use and demonstrate
connections to Earth. Other Hunters pursue the basic geological and structural approach looking for the ruined
foundations that would have made up the cities of the Martians. Following Robs' debut of this image the first set
of comments came from KK and with those repeated below we begin our presentation of image 243501.
Another strange thing about that site no-one has mentioned before...Hunt all
around it and you'll have a difficult time locating any significant craters...For
that matter, I've had difficuly finding any small ones too! This in itself has
special significance. It suggests that the whole area was re-shaped (small craters
were filled in & large ones were excavated/reshaped to advantage) long after the
meteoric crater impact period on Mars. A sure sign of intentional, intelligent
design.
Think about it! KK

Teotehuacan on Mars?
Sun Feb 20 12:51:48 2000
A virtual duplicate of my newest webage on the Mars-MesoAmerican
connection!

To paraphrase that basic question by the late but forever great,
Carl Sagan...
Where are the streets? Where are the cities? These are the things of a past civilization that
should be found if this is true!
One only has to look at this site Rob located on Mars, to recognize
the remnants of a past intelligence!
Located in area L on context image below!
That's the rain-god!(colorized gold)...Note the ear ring
More shrines to the gods?
Just a natural mound, or is it a temple to the Jaguar?
Simple drifts and natural formations,
or the remnants of an intensive farming operation?
For centuries, it's been said; Teotehuacan was built by the gods!...
Could our Teotehuacan on Earth have been the new world replacement
for this ancient lost city on Mars?
And why are so many of Earth's very ancient Meso-American cities located in such desolate
places and at such high elevations?...Think about it!

| MOC 43105 could be one of the most important images from the early phase of the Mars
Global Surveyor mission, or it could be yet another dead end in the ongoing quest for evidence of life and/or conscious
direction on Mars. The image shows the interior formations of a quasi-circular depression in the Nilosyrtis region of Arabia Terra. The formations appear very dark from orbit, standing out in sharp contrast to the very subdued appearance of the surrounding terrain.I call these interior formations "Mars Art" because my response to them is somewhat like that I would have to a work of art. Those who studied the monuments of Cydonia responded in a similar but distinct way to the many "works" that appeared there. I don't know that there is any consciousness or conscious direction behind the formations in MOC 43105, and I don't know that there isn't any in Cydonia. What little we do know is that there are evocative formations all over the surface of Mars; many of them defy any easy explanation, some even defy facile description. No other planetary or satellite body studied so far has this power to evoke such startling "recognition" in us, and to simultaneously defy our need to comprehend. Because of the dark color of MOC 43105's formations, I categorize it with all the other "black stuff" formations. Like some of the others, the formations here seem to be covered with a light coating of "black stuff." Unlike most of the others, there doesn't appear to be any large nearby deposit of "black stuff". This may say something about the nature of the "black stuff" and how it is formed and transported. The formations in MOC 43105 are circular and linear. There are a number of conical mounds whose slopes appear to be light-colored. Some have flat tops, indicating the possibility of a former surface well above that which we now see. Though the slopes of the mounds appear to be quite steep, there is little or no sign of erosive debris at their bases, indicating that either there hasn't been any significant recent erosion, or that erosion takes place in a manner that prevents the accumulation of debris at the bases of the mounds. For example, if the mounds are largely ice, erosion would be in the form of sublimation into the atmosphere. There might be some dust or debris released during sublimation which could blow away without falling to the ground. On the other hand, if there were standing water around the bases of the mounds, any debris which fell into it could have spread out so much that there would be little or no debris concentrated at the bases of the mounds. If there was standing water, however, its presence would have to be explained, for in this area of Mars, current temperatures and pressures are always too low to permit liquid water to remain for more than a very brief period. Channels are seen in the Viking image, and these may indicate that underground water has flowed in the area. If so, the region we now see in MOC 43105 may once have been an underground cavern, which may have been partially filled with water. That cavern may have collapsed, for any number of reasons, exposing the interior formations to view. That they are such evocative formations says as much about us as it does about anything on Mars. The first thing that comes to mind is that these formations appear to have been "constructed." There appears to be a "purpose" to it all, though precisely what that purpose may be is unclear. It also appears that if these formations were "constructed," work was never completed. The angles of the formations are startlingly regular, with 30, 60, and 90 degree angles quite prominent. Yet there are many exceptions and variations, especially in the area of the numerous crisscrossing ridges. |
| Wind erosion appears to be limited in this specific area, but it may be extensive in
some nearby areas. The cause of Martian "differential erosion" -- in which neighboring areas show radically
different erosional patterns -- is still poorly understood. There are a few impact craters in the area -- even a very few small ones seen among the formations in MOC 43105 -- but they don't seem to be recent enough to have caused erosion within this depression. Another erosive force, ice, may be invoked shortly, but up to this point, the actions of ice erosion and permafrost are not completely understood on Mars. I suspect water and ice have played a primary role in the case of the formations in MOC 43105. I would not be surprised to find that the formations (especially the conical mounds) are in fact primarily made of ice and that they are eroding (by sublimation) quickly. I suspect that there was a large cavern here -- two connected ones by the looks of things -- which collapsed when ice melted and drained away. From the appearance of the remaining formations, the ice in the cavern had caverns of its own where there were ponds of liquid water. Thus the caverns had to have been sealed sufficiently for positive pressure to be maintained, and for temperatures to be maintained at or above 273K. The positive air pressure could have contributed to the collapse of the caverns. This pressure would always try to find a means of escape, and if a way were found, the pressure could have been released catastrophically. If these formations did occur under circumstances something like this, it is likely that the collapse of the caverns and the removal of the water and ice was fairly recent in a geological sense. parts of the formations may be composed of ice. If the origin of these formations is anything like what I describe, there is a strong likelihood of biology and even the possibility of its presence at this site today. This is especially true if, just beneath the present surface, there is another realm of ice and water that has yet to be exposed. That biology needn't be limited to "primitive microbes." But even if it were, we don't know -- we don't have any idea -- what such creatures might be capable of on Mars. The cause of the "black stuff" in this case is mysterious. Why it only appears in the center of the eastern depression and not in the western one is peculiar. The "black stuff" appears to be a very thin coating, except in the rectilinear "pond" just below the largest of the conical mounds. There, it appears that the "black stuff" largely fills the pit. Light colored dunes are found on top of the "black stuff" here. The apparent deliberateness and even the "artistry" of the formations in MOC 43105 may be an indication of biological processes at work. Those processes, even if they involve only microbes, could be "intelligent" by every standard we use to measure such things. We don't know enough, not even close, to make any certain judgement. But I am certainly fascinated! Cheers, BR |
